December 5, 2010 2nd Sunday of Advent Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19
The psalmist requests of God for an ideal situation for the king and for the people of Israel, an ideal situation that has never been realized in ancient Israel or in any other nation.
Isaiah 11:1-10 An example of how Israel hoped for a great king in the lineage of David. This is a beautiful expression of hope, justice and peace. Romans 15:4-13 Paul wrote about his wish that "followers of Jesus who came from a Jewish background and followers of Jesus who came from other backgrounds would live together in harmony, in order that would glorify God with one voice. Paul is emphasizing the Spirit of God rather than a legalistic literalism. Matthew 3:1-12 John the Baptizer implores all people to Change your ways, your attitudes, your actions and your lifestyle. Prepare the way for the Lord.
